Princeton, NJ /ACCESSWIRE / June 3rd, 2014 / Congress has yet to extend EPAct 179 for 2014 projects; but, those facilities that have completed green energy upgrade projects during 2013 still have time to benefit from the deductions or incentives offered through it. Claris Energy, a CleanTech energy services company that provides commercial and industrial customers with turnkey solutions to energy management, is pleased to announce it is now offering assistance to those businesses wishing to apply under the 2013 EPAct 179D.

EPAct 179D is a section of the Energy Policy Act (EPAct) of 2005. Section 179D provides for a special tax incentive for qualified energy efficiency projects incorporated into commercial buildings. Since its inception, many have received hundreds of millions of dollars including businesses, contractors, engineers and architects. Yet, due to its perceived complexity and low awareness, many who qualify are not gaining the tax benefits of EPAct 179D.

Claris Energy can prepare all the necessary documents in accordance with IRS guidelines for businesses to gain the incentives or deductions of EPAct 179D. This includes all calculations and documentations, the performance of energy modeling, delivery of a certification report, obtaining the proper government Allocation Letter and coordination with the business’s tax advisor. In addition, Claris Energy can prescreen potential projects to see if they will qualify under EPAct 179D.

The tax benefit applies to new construction as well as green energy upgrades of existing facilities, which have been completed and placed into service within January 1, 2006 to December 31, 2013. One of its greatest advantages is the immediate tax benefit building owners, who would otherwise have to deduct costs over a 39-year period, receive. Partial deductions can also be obtained for specific energy-saving measures in areas such as interior lighting, building envelope and HVAC and hot water systems. Claris Energy is experienced in helping building owners claim the tax deduction retroactively and filing amended returns for open and closed tax years to allow businesses, who thought they had missed the chance, to take advantage of EPAct 179D.
