Shares of Verizon Communications Inc. closed up 2.31% on nearly 29.4 million shares traded. The stock was one of the most active stocks on the NYSE. The stock climbed higher after it was revealed that Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Inc. has bought 11 million shares of Verizon Wireless stock in the first quarter.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters forecast 21 cents a share in net income and $568.58 million in revenue.

The company settled litigation in London involving AGR Well Management. AGR had provided project management services for Hyperdynamics' subsidiary, SCS Corporation, in connection with the drilling of the Sabu #1 well offshore Guinea in 2011-2012.
