The company announced that it would spin off its oilfield services business. The unit, known as Chesapeake Oilfield Operating, will relieve the parent company of about $1 billion in debt.

Shares of Dilllard’s Inc. closed up nearly 15% on Friday with nearly 2.7 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers on the NYSE and hit a new yearly high of $111.74 during intra-day trading. The company delivered a strong first quarter report. Comparable sales increased 2% which drove earnings per share up from $2.50 a year ago to $2.56, which beat estimates at $2.41. Revenue of $1.59 billion was almost in line with estimates at $1.6 billion.
