PowerSecure International Posts Q1 Earnings below Estimates; Tesla Motors Projects Earnings Drop for Fiscal Year

Shares of CenturyLink closed up 6.38% on about 21.6 million shares traded on Thursday. The stock was one of the biggest gainers on the NYSE. The company reported a better than expected first quarter. Over the three months to March, the company reported net income of 66 cents a share and revenue of $4.54 billion. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters had expected 61 cents a share and $4.48 billion.

Tesla shares closed down 11.30% on Thursday with about 20 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest decliners on the NASDAQ. The company announced a possible earnings drop later in the fiscal year. The company’s revenue for the first quarter came in at $620.5 million but fell short of the $683.5 million estimate from analysts polled by FactSet. The company’s net income however was 12 cents which beat the analysts’ estimate of 8 cents a share.

Shares of FOX closed up 6.62% on about 10.8 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers on the NASDAQ. The company reported third-quarter earnings that topped analyst expectations. Net income in the quarter through March fell to $1.05 billion, or 47 cents per share, from $2.85 billion, or $1.22 per share, a year earlier. After adjustments that offset each other, the total came to 47 cents per share of earnings and beat the 35 cents expected by analysts polled by FactSet.

Shares of PowerSecure International closed down 62.37% on nearly 10.5 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest decliners on the NYSE. The company was downgraded by several firms after reporting disappointing first quarter earnings. Over the three months to March, PowerSecure reported a net loss of 17 cents a share and revenue of $52.8 million. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected profits of 2 cents a share and revenue of $59.33 million.
