Yahoo Sinks on Alibaba IPO Evaluation; GNC Holdings Misses on Estimates

Shares of GNC Holdings closed down 13.52% on about 15.7 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest decliners on the NYSE and hit a new yearly low of $35.26 during intra-day trading. The drop came after a disappointing first-quarter earnings report. Comparable sales fell 0.7%, and overall revenue grew just 1.9% to $677.3 million, missing the estimates at $695.9 million. Earnings per share for company came in at $0.75, but that was $0.01 short of the consensus.

Yahoo! shares closed down 6.63% on about 66 million shares traded. The stock was one of the most active stocks on the NASDAQ. The drop came after it was revealed that Alibaba filed papers for its initial public offering. Yahoo owns 24% of Alibaba’s shares. The IPO was valued at $109 billion which came in below estimates of $150 billion to $200 billion, according to analyst Colin Gillis at BGC Partners.

Shares of KRED closed up 5.76% on about 300,000 shares traded almost on Wednesday. The stock was one of the most active stocks in the OTCBB market. The company is the developer of the exclusive Hawaiian Coffeeberry® wellness beverages and nutritional products which are sold in select Vitamin Shoppe, Whole Foods, Walmart, Safeway, Sprouts, 7-Eleven. The company announced the appointment of Michael Halsey to its leadership team as Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

Shares of SunEdison closed down 7.71% on about 21 million shares traded on Wednesday. The stock was one of the biggest decliners on the NYSE. The company had no significant news but is expected to announce earnings on May 8th. The company is up over 52% year to date and just  announced the completion of eight solar power plants in the United Kingdom.
