Shares of DTV closed up 4.07% on Thursday with around 9.6 million shares traded. The company even hit a new yearly high of $82.75 during intra-day trading. The gains came after it was reported that AT&T may be interested in buying DIRECTV.

Shares of Weight Watchers International closed up nearly 20% on about 8 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers on the NYSE. The company posted better-than-expected earnings in its first quarter. The company earned 31 cents a share over the three months to March, 22 cents higher than analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters forecast.

The company announced the formation of a new corporate subsidiary entity, Candor Homes Corporation, a Nevada corporation, which will focus on “Greener” and more "technologically advanced" new home construction and sales.
