Val-d'Or, Quebec / ACCESSWIRE / May 1, 2014 / Knick Exploration Inc. (TSX-V: KNX) is pleased to report that uranium-lead (U-Pb) age dating has been completed on the Trecesson Batholith of Knick's Trecesson Property. The geochronology study yielded an age of 2711.0 ? 1.2 Ma interpreted to represent the timing of emplacement of the granite. Peripheral to the Trecesson Batholith felsic volcanics of the "Lac Arthur Group" have been U-Pb age dated at 2714 ? 3 Ma (RNFQ, RP 2010-04, Goutier J. et al., original work Labbe 1999).

The U-Pb zircon geochronology study was performed by Jean David, Ph.D. geo., research associate GEOTOP-UQAM as part of the Masters studies being completed by Mr. George Yordanov BSc. at University of Montreal. The Masters studies are on the Trecesson Pluton, including age dating, petrographic work and relative comparisons with the Bourlamaque Batholith. Alain Tremblay Ph.D. geo., is the acting supervisor for Mr. Yordanovs' Thesis.

The Trecesson Batholith is host to the historical Chib-Kayrand Mine and numerous gold ? tungsten showing most of which have been subjected to little work since the early 1950's. The showings occur with in and near the margins of the Batholith. Mineralization encountered in Knicks' 2011 drill program showed similarities to the ores from the Bourlamaque Batholith.

The age dating of the Trecesson Batholith was performed in part to see how it compares with that of the Bourlamaque Batholith. The Bourlamaque Batholith host to at least 9 known gold deposits in the Val d'Or mining camp gave rise to producers and past producers including the Ferderber and Beaufor gold mines. U-Pb age dating of the Bourlamaque Batholith by Wong, P. C. et al. in 1991 yielded an event date of 2,700 ? 1 Ma (U-Pb zircon and rutile chronology of Archean greenstone formation and gold mineralization in the Val d'Or region, Quebec; Earth and Planetary Sciences Letters, Volume 104. p. 325-336).

Analytical method used by Jean David, Ph.D. geo., research associate GEOTOP-UQAM,

More than fifteen single crystals of the best quality were selected (and treated by the technique of chemical abrasion to prevent the problem of discordance mainly caused by recent 'lead loss' (Mattinson 2005). Four fractions were analyzed by thermal ionization mass spectrometry and isotope dilution method (TIMS-ID).

After the chemical abrasion, between 3 and 5 small grains were combined for each analytical fraction. The fractions were washed in ultra-pure HNO3, H2O and acetone, and dissolved in Teflon bombs using HF at 195 C in the presence of a mixed 205Pb/233-235U spike. Purification of U and Pb follows the procedure of Krogh (1973), modified by using small anion exchange columns. The samples were loaded on zone-refined Re filaments with Si-gel and H3PO4 and measured on a VG Sector54 mass spectrometer by peak-jumping using the ion-counting Daly photomultiplier. Corrections for mass fractionation ( 0.15% amu for Pb, 0.18% amu for U) and dead time (11.5 ns) were determined by the repeated measuring of the SRM981 and SRM982 Pb standard, U-500 U standard, as well as in-situ using the 233-235U ratio from the spike. The analyses were corrected for a Pb blank of 2 pg and 0.5 pg for U, but for some analyses the blank have been higher and allowance has been made for that during data's reduction. The residual initial common Pb was subtracted using compositions calculated with the Stacey & Kramers (1975) model. Overall evaluation of the reproducibility was determined by the analysis of aliquots of separate fragments of zircon standard 91500 (Wiedenbeck et al., 1995). Results from sixteen analyses yield an age of 1066.2?0.6 Ma (MSWD = 1.1). Age determinations and uncertainties were calculated using Isoplot3x (Ludwig 2007).
