Avani Pharmaceuticals Wins Patent Infringement Lawsuit; Rite Aid CFO Sells Nearly 2 Million Shares

Shares of ABEV closed down about 5% on Wednesday with nearly 40 million shares traded. Average trading volume for the stock is just around 9.7 million shares. The Brazilian company’s drop came after it was revealed that Brazil plans to institute higher taxes on beer prior to the World Cup this summer.  Bloomberg reported that the Brazilian government will announce today a plan to increase taxes on beverages including beer, soda and bottled water beginning on June 1.

The U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware ruled in Avanir’s favor in its patent infringement lawsuit against Par Pharmaceuticals and Impax Laboratories over NUEDEXTA.

Shares of Rite Aid Corporation closed up 2.96% on about 41 million shares traded. The stock was one of the most active stocks on the NYSE on Wednesday coming just 7 cents shy of its yearly high during intra-day trading. Company Chief Financial Officer Frank Vitrano sold 1,913,925 Rite Aid shares for $13,544,847, an average of $7.08 each.

Shares of ITCC closed up over 200% on Wednesday with about 7.5 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers in the OTC market despite no news released.
