RF Micro Devices Beats Estimates; Exelon Corporation Shares Decline Despite Acquisition

Shares of Exelon Corporation closed down 3.18% on about 22.5 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest decliners on the NYSE despite the company announcing that it would buy Pepco Holdings Inc for $6.83 billion. The acquisition would make the company the biggest power distribution company in the United States.

Shares of RF Micro Devices Inc. closed up 4.33% on about 27.3 million shares traded. The stock was one of the most active on the NASDAQ with an average trading volume of about 10.8 million shares. The company exceeded analysts' expectations in its March-ending quarter. In its first quarter, RF Micro Devices reported adjusted net income of 12 cents a share and revenue of $256 million. Both measures beat estimates.

Shares of FX Energy Inc. closed up 21.51% on nearly 5 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers on the NASDAQ. The gains came after the company reported an estimated production rate of 24 million cubic feet a day (mmcf/d) for its Tuchola field. In a statement the company’s vice president of operations called the flow rates "significantly better than we had hoped."

Shares of ELTP closed up 13.54% on Wednesday with about 5.2 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers in the OTCBB market despite the company not releasing any significant news. On April 22nd, Elite Pharma announced the issuance of U.S. Patent No. 8,703,186 titled "Abuse-Resistant Oral Dosage Forms and Method of Use Thereof". This patent expands the intellectual property for the Company's opioid abuse deterrent technology.
