Food prices are rising significantly, especially for beef, pork, poultry, eggs and milk. Food4Patriots emergency food prices are holding steady.

Nashville, TN / ACCESSWIRE / April 18, 2014 / Recent droughts that have thinned cattle herds in the U.S. West and Southwest, and a virus outbreak in the hog population have combined to push the prices for beef and pork significantly higher, according to USA Today. Prices have also risen for poultry, eggs and milk, helping to bring the overall retail food price rise to 0.4 percent in March, the same as February.

These increases are at least twice as high as those for prices for overall consumer goods, which rose 0.1 percent in February and 0.2 percent in March, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. With higher percentages of household budgets being spent on food, the average person has less for discretionary spending, said economist Chris Christopher of HIS Global Insight.

Higher food prices also make it more difficult for people to purchase food that they can store for an emergency. Food4Patriots prices, on the other hand, have remained constant over the past several months. Since launching last summer, the supplier of emergency food suitable for long-term storage, survival and emergency preparedness has sold more than 13 million meals to people who want to be ready when the inevitable crisis occurs.

The company's 72-hour, four-week and three-month emergency food kits have shelf lives of up to 25 years. The great tasting and nutritious food in these kits can be prepared in less than 20 minutes and requires nothing more than boiling water. It's kept in easy-to-store Mylar pouches, which keep out air, moisture and light.

Food4Patriots customers have been letting the company know how they feel about the emergency food they've purchased. Following are some of those customer comments. (A few grammatical changes have been made.)

"In these and more troubled times to come, it's comforting to have a back-up supply of food." – Franklin J.

"What impressed me most was the packaging. It showed concern for long-term storage…I do feel better prepared now." – Clarence

"When I ordered, you said these were adult portions, but I was very pleased with getting more than I thought was an adult portion." – Dale M.
