Mortgage REITS have rebounded in 2014 after being pressured by rising interest rates in 2013. According to Nareit, posted a loss of 2.0 percent last year, compared to an 11.2 percent return for the three months ended March 31st. "If the economy really is improving, then earnings in the real-estate sector will be more than enough to compensate for rises in interest rates." said Calvin Schnure, an economist with the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts.

Capstead Mortgage Corporation (NYSE: CMO) shares traded in the range of $12.61 to $12.74 Wednesday before settling to close at $12.70, an increase of 0.47 percent. The stock appears to be facing some resistance at the $12.73 and $12.89 levels with some support at $12.45 and $12.33. The company currently offers investors an annual dividend of $1.36 for a yield of roughly 10.71 percent. Shares of Capstead Mortgage are up approximately 5.0 percent year-to-date.

Dynex Capital Inc. (NYSE: DX) shares traded in the range of $8.62 to $8.74 Wednesday before settling to close at $8.62, a decrease of 1.15 percent.
