Yahoo Director John Hayes Stepping Down; Verizon Supports Earth Hour

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YAHOO) director John Hayes is not seeking re-election at June’s shareholder meeting. Hayes joined the company amid upheaval back in 2012 and has said he is unable to bring the time and focus required for the position. He is also the chief marketing officer at American Express Co. Hayes was one of three directors who joined the board amid a clash with investor Dan Loeb’s Third Point LLC. investor Dan Loeb’s Third Point LLC almost two years ago. “I have made the difficult decision to not seek re-election to the Yahoo Board,” Hayes said in the statement. “I have tremendous confidence in the continued progress and success of Yahoo.”

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) in honor of the global Earth Hour movement will join in on the efforts and employees in New Jersey will turn off lights at more than 100 buildings in the Garden State for one hour at 8:30PM on March 29th. Last year Verizon made significant investments in energy and sustainability management in New Jersey and placed fuel cells and solar panels at its corporate center in Basking Ridge. Worldwide, the company and its employees have pledged to turn off lights at approximately 550 Verizon buildings and more than 3,800 Verizon employee homes across roughly 40 countries.

"Sustainability and energy management have been key initiatives at Verizon, and Earth Hour is a great way to generate awareness of these initiatives and participation from our employees in New Jersey," said Paul Sullivan, region operations president for Verizon New Jersey. "Events like this will reduce our carbon footprint and relieve demand on the electrical grid."
