Newmont Mining Corporation (NYSE: NEM) shares closed up 4.53% on Thursday with about 11.1 million shares traded. The stock was one of the most active stocks in the NYSE. Earlier in the week it was reported that the company completed the sale of its Midas operation in Nevada to Klondex Mines Ltd. for total consideration of more than $83 million. The gold miner acquired the mine through its merger with Normandy in 2002. Newmont, in Dec 2013, landed a deal to sell its Midas underground operation and mill complex to Klondex for $55 million in cash and $28 million for the replacement of its surety arrangements with Nevada and federal regulatory authorities. Under the deal, Newmont also received 5 million purchase warrants of Klondex having a 15-year term, subject to acceleration in specific circumstances.

Sears Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ: SHLD) shares closed up 7.50% on Thursday with nearly 3 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers on the NASDAQ. Shares jumped after Force Capital Management LLC disclosed a 5.6 percent stake. The New York-based investment firm reported its stake in a regulatory filing earlier this week.

Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (OTCBB: FMCC) shares closed up a modest 1.01% on nearly 1.9 million shares traded. The stock was one of the most active stocks in the OTCBB marketplace. Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. asked a judge to approve a $767 million settlement with Freddie Mac (FMCC) to pay off a $1.2 billion bankruptcy claim, one of the biggest remaining against the defunct bank.

TagLikeMe Corp. (OTC: TAGG) shares doubled on Thursday with a little over 1 billion shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest advancers in the OTC market and had one of the biggest volume advances. The big pop came despite the fact that the company had no significant news. TagLikeMe Corp., a development stage company, focuses on developing online and mobile content using search and sharing technology.
