Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (NYSE: ANR) shares closed down a modest 3.80 percent on Wednesday with about 22 million shares traded. The stock was one of the most active stocks on the NYSE after reporting a mixed earnings report. Alpha Natural reported a fourth-quarter loss of 52 cents a share. Analysts surveyed by Capital IQ expected a loss of 62 cents a share. Revenue fell 29.8% in the quarter to $1.09 billion; analysts were expecting revenue of $1.17 billion. The quarter included a $205.1 million tax charge and a $7.4 million loss on early debt extinguishment. The company also saw income tax expense rise to $92.5 million from $26.8 million.

Ventrus Biosciences Inc. (NASDAQ: VTUS) shares closed down about 63 percent on Wednesday making Ventrus one of the biggest decliners in the NASDAQ. The stock had one of the biggest volume advances with roughly 18 million shares traded. The company announced top line efficacy and safety results from the second Phase 3 clinical trial of Diltiazem Hydrochloride 2% Cream, or VEN 307 in patients with pain related to anal fissure. VEN 307 efficacy was as expected; placebo effect greater than anticipated, resulting in no significant difference between treatments.

Nuvilex, Inc. (OTC: NVLX) shares closed up 6.87 percent on Wednesday with about 4.3 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers in the OTC market. Last year the company landed a leading figure in the medical marijuana field in Dr. Mark L. Rabe. Dr. Rabe was appointed as the Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of Medical Marijuana Sciences (MMS), the wholly-owned subsidiary Nuvilex formed to house its work in the Cannabis industry.

ScripsAmerica, Inc. (OTCBB: SCRC) shares closed up 13.90 percent on Wednesday with about 480,000 shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest advancers in the OTCBB marketplace. The company announced that during the month of January, the Company's equity venture, Wholesale Rx "WRx," received and processed $268,696 in orders, setting a second consecutive monthly revenue record.
