Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) unveiled a new advertisement this weekend that promotes the many artistic and technical uses of its flagship iPad Air tablet. The "Your Verse Anthem" ad debuted during Sunday's divisional playoff game between the Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers.
The new ad was shot in Apple's usual dramatic style and featured a beautifully photographed montage of people using the iPad in various capacities and environments around the world. However, in lieu of an original voiceover, Apple recycled a dramatic monologue delivered by Robin Williams in the film Dead Poets Society.
Dead Poets Society is a film about an inspiring English teacher played by Robin Williams. In the excerpt used by Apple, Williams argued that "poetry, beauty, romance, love" are the ultimate reasons for living, although more practical pursuits like "medicine, law, business, engineering" are necessary to sustain life. The speech also includes a quote from a Walt Whitman poem. The ad can be seen in the embedded video below and is also currently featured on Apple’s website.

Galena Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:GALE) rallies on news the company is buying Mills Pharmaceuticals, giving GALE rights to GALE-401 (CR anagrelide), a treatment for Essential Thrombocythemia. In GALE's estimation, the drug "meets the qualifications for orphan drug status [and] has an estimated peak market size of approximately $200M in the U.S. "The company says a Phase 2 study should begin in "mid-2014."GALE made an upfront payment to Mills' owners who are also eligible for stock grants and a milestone payment, the latter is contingent upon FDA approval of an NDA for '401.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has bought Branch Media, the startup behind online messaging platform Branch and sharing service Potluck. Founder Josh Miller made the announcement Monday morning, saying Facebook pitched the idea as a way to "build Branch at Facebook scale!"
The Branch team will work to build a new "Conversations group" at Facebook, creating products similar to Branch "with the goal of helping people connect with others around their interests." Both Branch and Potluck will "live on outside of Facebook," Miller said.
