Breakthrough Technology Accelerates Biodegradability in Petroleum Based Lubricants to Attack #1 Cause of Oil Pollution in Water

CELEBRATION, FL - (ACCESSWIRE - October 16, 2013) - Green Earth Technologies (GETG.QB) the manufacturer and marketer of G-OIL[R], is pleased to announce its latest environmental product, BODA[TM], an innovative accelerator that will cause petroleum engine oils and lubricants to more quickly biodegrade.

Used engine oil is the largest single source of oil pollution in U.S. lakes, streams and rivers as petroleum molecules never wear-out and will not dissolve in water. According to the Washington Water Quality Consortium, 40% of oil pollution in American harbors and waterways is a result of improper collection, disposal or recycling of engine oil. A single pint of oil can create an oil slick larger than a football field.

Developed by G.E.T., the BODA proprietary formula will be blended into petroleum base stocks during the production of the oils to accelerate their biodegradability. BODA will also accelerate the biodegradability in G.E.T.'s current bio-based G-OIL products.

ACCELERATED BIODEGRADABILITY AND IMPROVED PERFORMANCE

In addition to accelerating the biodegradation of conventional engine oil, BODA also increases performance characteristics. A proprietary accelerated oxidation test (where 30 minutes is the equivalent of 5,000 engine miles) revealed that Green Earth Technologies BODA technology improved conventional engine oil oxidation resistance by up to 22%.

"We subjected the BODA treated engine oil to a series of high performance tests to ensure that not only would there be no harm, but also that the oil would remain in specification," said Jeffrey Loch, President and CMO of Green Earth Technologies. "Not only did BODA accelerate the biodegradation of the oil, achieving the goals that customers have been requesting, but it actually enhanced its performance."

A Proprietary Surface Tension Analyzer test also showed that oil enhanced with BODA improved lubricant wetting for better anti-wear protection. NOACK volatility with BODA treated oil was about 10% better when compared to the untreated sample. Additionally, the Total Base Number (TBN) - which is a measurement of the reserve alkalinity and the oil’s ability to neutralize acids created from combustion and wear showed that motor oil with BODA had a 9.5% improvement over untreated oil.

Testing also found that BODA lowers the viscosity of conventional oil in low temperature environments, improving fuel economy and engine protection. BODA also reduces the volatility of the oil which is an indicator of superior oil stability and longer oil change intervals.
