New York City, New York -- (May 29, 2013)

The U.S. biotechnology sector is likely to see a sharp rise in costs as President Obama’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) goes into full effect by 2014. However, biotechnology companies, which are facing increasing competition from generic drug makers due to expiration of patents on several blockbuster drugs, are likely to benefit from the ACA in the longer-term due to the increase in the number of insured individuals. Therefore, it is not surprising that despite the costs, the U.S. healthcare sector in general has welcomed the ACA. On Tuesday, May 28, 2013, shares in biotechnology companies ended mostly higher, tracking gains in the broad market, which rallied as investors cheered some robust U.S. economic data. The major movers in the sector included ZIOPHARM Oncology Inc. (NASDAQ: ZIOP), MannKind Corporation (NASDAQ: MNKD), Ariad Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ: ARIA), Galena Biopharma Inc. (NASDAQ: GALE), and Novavax Inc. (NASDAQ: NVAX). StockCall has released free charting and technical research on these aforementioned companies. Register to read these reports at
