Last week, Madrid-based Telefonica S.A. reported its financial results for 2012. The company noted that 2012 was a key year in its transformation process. The company took several initiatives during 2012 which it believes will accelerate the restoring of its growth differential. For 2012, Telefonica reported revenue of $62.356 billion Euros. The company saw solid growth in mobile data revenue in 2012.Consolidated OIBDA rose 5.1% on a reported basis to 21.231 billion Euros in 2012. The company ended the year with 316 million subscribers. Net income for 2012 totaled 3.928 billion Euros.

Conversely, NTT Docomo Inc. announced that it will establish a wholly-owned subsidiary in Brazil, called DOCOMO Brasil Servicos de Telecomunicacao Ltda in recent days. The subsidiary will offer mobile solutions for mainly Japanese corporate customers in Brazil. It will also conduct research aimed at developing new business opportunities in Latin America.

Back in January, NTT Docomo reported its financial results. The company’s operating revenue for the nine-month period ended in December 31, 2012 was 3,370.8 billion yen. Wireless services sales for the nine-month period were 2,787.1 billion yen, while equipment sales for the period were 583.7 billion yen. Operating income for the nine-month period was 702.2 billion yen. Net income for the nine-month period stood at 409.8 billion yen.

In the December quarter, the company had operating revenue of 1.163.5 billion yen. Wireless services sales for the quarter were 942.2 billion yen, while equipment sales for the period were 221.3 billion yen. Operating income was 231.1 billion for the three-month period, while net income was 128.9 billion yen for the three-month period.
