January 24, 2013 - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - Atocha Resources (the Company), TSX.V - ATT announces that it has received the report on the prospecting and mapping program conducted in the fall of 2012 on the St. Sixte and Montpellier graphite properties, located in the Grenville sub-province of the Precambrian Shield in Quebec.
The Saint Sixte property consists of 29 claims (1,740 ha), and is located five kilometres to the west of the town of Saint-Sixte, Quebec just off Route 317, approximately 65 kilometres from Ottawa. Located in a historic graphite mining district, it was initially explored for graphite in the early 1950's and again in the 1980's. The Montpellier property consists of 23 claims (1,475 ha) which covers 4 municipalities.
The Company was granted access by local landowners, as required by the Quebec mining act, to 7 private land holdings in the properties, representing approximately 1.5% of the total land package. Access rights were not given to 98.5% of the ground including the areas where the old workings had reported graphite occurrences. A total of 35 outcrops were prospected with 12 samples sent for trace element geochemistry. No graphite mineralization or anomalous values in any element including carbon (C) was located during the mapping/prospecting program on the two properties.
In light of the current economic conditions, the Company has initiated an assessment of its land holdings and their economic viability and potential for future discoveries. Each project has been evaluated on an individual basis. Based on this analysis, the Company will not be continuing exploration on the Montpellier or St. Sixte graphite properties.
