During the In-Depth Interview, Poujade Answered Questions about His Current and Past Jobs, How He Keeps Himself Motivated and Unorthodox Techniques He Has Used to Help His Company Succeed

When asked by the interviewer to talk about his first job, Poujade said that when he was young, he worked as a paper boy for his hometown newspaper. Jacques started working at a very young age, as his mother was charged with raising four children (Jacques and his three siblings) on her own. He also knew that having a good work ethic and education were paramount to a better life, as life as a child was very difficult. As he got a bit older and finished his undergraduate and graduate degrees in finance and accounting, he was recruited by a super regional bank in the U.S. where he was a credit analyst in middle market doing loans up to $500million. As Poujade noted, working in middle market where they did loans to corporations throughout the U.S. really opened up the financial world for him.
As for how he got into his current position, Poujade again mentioned how his previous experience at the bank helped inspire him to be an entrepreneur and set him on a trajectory of creating companies that have a better way of helping others and making a difference in people's lives.
''I have always been someone who definitely roots for the underdog,'' he told the interviewer, adding that at LendPlus, they work with a lot of people who feel as though they have been doubted, overlooked, and victimized when applying for a loan or financing.
''Turning dreams into reality got me hooked in this particular industry.''
The interviewer then asked Poujade to describe the best day of work that he has ever had. While he admitted it was challenging to choose just one day, his best day during the past year took place when a mom of three called into LendPlus.
''She said she basically gave up hope as far as getting approved for a mortgage loan to finally buy her first home. With three kids as a single mom, she only lived in small apartments until working with us,'' he said. ''It reminded me a lot of my own life as a child, where my mom had to single handedly provide food on our table and a roof over our heads.''
As Poujade recalls, the mom was very patient and willing to work with the team at LendPlus, and they were able to find a solution for her.
''She's sent us four different thank you emails since, including a physical card during holiday season with a picture of her family at the new house.''
As for giving unorthodox techniques a try in order to attract attention to LendPlus, Poujade said he recalls some interesting ad campaigns back when people were unsure about working with online financial companies.
''Looking back at some of those ad campaigns, it is a wonder some of them converted. We have become much better, and smarter, with how the internet works since then,'' Poujade said.
