School Districts and Law Enforcement Endorse SapiShield Protective Inserts

GLEN MILLS, PA / ACCESSWIRE / October 17, 2018 / Unequal, a Philadelphia-based leading manufacturer of sports and military protective gear, has announced that two Texas independent school districts, Brenham City Hall and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office are the newest SapiShield customers that are upgrading protection for their school guardians. The lighter and more comfortable Sapi - small arms protective insert - Shield can be integrated in traditional armored vests or placed into its own carrier, offering unmatched protection from multiple types of high-caliber ammunition and piercings.

Sheriff A.J. "Andy" Louderback of the Jackson County, Texas, Sheriff's Department likes what he sees in the SapiShield. "When you consider how threats have been mounting in our school communities, it only makes sense that we have continually been assessing the latest in protective multithreat solutions for guardians who are standing in the gap to help protect students across Texas. We are impressed with what Unequal has created, especially considering the reduction in weight and increase in comfort of these SapiShields."

Madalyn Maresh, assistant superintendent for Texas' Edna ISD, is also on board with integrating the SapiShield product line for their comprehensive school safety plans. "Edna ISD is committed to protecting our students and staff. We have worked in coordination with local law enforcement to develop and refine our school safety plans, as well as maximize our resources to provide a coordinated response to any school safety event. As part of a comprehensive and multifaceted approach to school safety, Edna ISD is moving forward with the implementation of a Guardian Plan. As such, Edna ISD has partnered with Unequal to purchase SapiShields to provide protection for the district staff who have willingly and unwaveringly stepped up to serve the district as Guardians to protect our students and staff."

Earlier in the year, Unequal launched its SafeShield backpack insert for students to give parents added peace of mind when their children are at school. The SapiShield was created to protect those that protect students and any other law enforcement or security personnel tasked with a similar mission.

"We're very proud to have the endorsement of Sheriff A.J. 'Andy' Louderback, as well as the Edna and Nacogdoches Independent School Districts," stated Rob Vito, CEO of Unequal. "Both 'shield' products have surpassed expectations in a battery of ballistic and stab testing sequences, and offer wearers thinner, more lightweight, more comfortable options than traditional protective plates on the market today."

SapiShields are easily concealable and offer an ultralow profile. At only a quarter-inch thick and approximately 25 ounces, each SapiShield insert is lighter and more comfortable than its traditional counterpart, which can weigh a cumbersome 10 pounds.

The SafeShield is also a quarter-inch thin and just 20 ounces. It easily fits into a school bag, backpack or briefcase, providing instant protection at ground zero - the classroom or office. It has tremendous stopping power, enough to help safeguard against a .44 Magnum, .357 SIG Sauer, shotgun blast and stab. Best of all, SafeShield is bi-directional, making it child friendly. Both sides equally protect, so it can't be placed incorrectly. This is unlike most backpack ballistic inserts that have a specific strike side - the front, are not designed to protect if placed backward, and thus could fail when needed most.

In multiple ballistic tests, the SapiShield and SafeShield inserts proved their mettle, standing up to NIJ level IIIa rounds from .44 and 357-caliber ammunition, as well as shotgun slugs and stabbings. The complete SapiShield vest package comes with ultrathin, ultralight ergonomic plates for both front and back placement in a lightweight, ventilated nylon carrier.

The SapiShield vest package retails for $499 - individual plates can be purchased separately - and the SafeShield retails for $150. Both are available online at www.unequal.com. For more information on Unequal and its full line of protective gear, please visit www.unequal.com.
