Veteran Prosecutor Patyl A. Oflazian Joins Talenfeld Law

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL / ACCESSWIRE / October 15, 2018 / Patyl A. Oflazian has joined Talenfeld Law, Florida's only law firm dedicated exclusively to protecting abused, disabled and injured children. Oflazian joins the firm as a senior associate and will focus her practice on sexual abuse, wrongful death, foster care and disabled person's damages, civil rights, personal injury, and child welfare litigation.

"Patyl is a true advocate for children who brings great courtroom knowledge and experience to our legal team," said Howard Talenfeld, firm managing partner. "She was a powerhouse in the office of the Broward County State Attorney and will use her extensive trial experience in prosecuting sex crimes and murders to obtain justice for abused and disabled children, and help us in our continued efforts to improve our state's child welfare system."

Prior to joining Talenfeld Law, Oflazian was an Assistant State Attorney in the 17th Judicial Circuit, serving in the Sexual Battery and Child Abuse Unit as well as in the Homicide Trial Unit where she tried approximately 100 jury trials. Additionally, she served in the Juvenile Unit and in the Felony Trial Unit where she handled offenses ranging from third degree felonies to first degree felonies punishable by life in prison.

Oflazian earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science from Temple University. She attended Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law graduating in 2010 with pro bono honors and Certification in Health Law. While serving as a prosecutor, she continued her graduate education at Temple University Beasley School of Law earning her LL.M. in Trial Advocacy. She graduated with honors and was awarded the Edward D. Ohlbaum Award for Commitment to the Art of Trial Advocacy.

As a leader in the legal realm, Oflazian is a member of The Florida Bar's Criminal Law Section and Government Lawyers Section Executive Council. Since earning her LL.M., she has joined the Temple University Beasley School of Law LL.M. in Trial Advocacy Program faculty. She also often returns to Nova Southeastern University to participate in teaching programs and workshops with law students.

Outside the courtroom, Oflazian is committed to serving her community by dedicating her time and efforts to numerous South Florida organizations and philanthropic causes. This work has been acknowledged by some of the area's top charity organizations, including recognition from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as a Fort Lauderdale's Finest Young Professional Honoree in 2015 and as a 40 Under 40 Outstanding Lawyer of South Florida in 2017. Additionally, she is past Co-Chairperson of the Broward Sexual Assault Intervention Network (BSAIN).

Oflazian is admitted to practice law in Florida, New Jersey and the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She is fluent in Armenian.
