PARSIPPANY, NJ / ACCESSWIRE / August 21, 2018 /Traveling with diabetes isn't impossible, but it can be difficult. Diabetics throw a number of obstacles that can be life-threatening for patients when they're on the road. But the makers of Contour NextOne Smartphone app believe that diabetes should not be a hindrance for the people with itchy feet.

Contour NextOne, a Smartphone app and a glucose meter for diabetic wanderlusts, was launched recently for Canadian consumers by Ascensia Diabetes Care US Inc. At the launch event, the developers of the app talked at length about how the obstacles thrown by diabetes at the travel junkies can be done away with.

"At present, there are over 300,000 Canadians living with type 1 diabetes, and for many, the prospect of travel seems to be out of reach. Traveling with diabetes is no easy feat; factors like altitude, different climates, time zones, and a range of exotic foods can be a challenge to manage. Traveling in warm, tropical climates can be devastating for the insulin. The use of Frio bags or insulin cases that are similar will help patients keep their insulin at the required temperature for the entirety of your trip", said one of the top executives of Ascensia Diabetes Care US Inc.

"It's important to be able to identify when insulin has expired as well. If the color of the insulin becomes cloudy white color, it will no longer be effective. Having adequate supplies can be the difference between life and death for people with type 1 diabetes", added the executive.

The executive also told that ensuring a diabetes meter is of good quality and in good shape and have enough insulin for extended periods of time is critical for the well-being of a diabetic traveler.

"Diabetics who require an insulin pump are familiar with the concept of counting carbohydrates due to their training, but those using insulin pens may not be as familiar. When diabetics inject insulin, the amount required is based on the carbohydrates of a food –not sugar, fat, salt, etc. Diabetics all have their own unique "carb ratio", and carb counting helps them work out their insulin dose. In this regard, Contour NextOne, a modern diabetes meter with a companion smartphone app, is a great tool indeed", added the executive.

The executive stated in front of the press representatives that diabetic patients should make it a point to carry a diabetic ID during traveling.
