NOVI, MI / ACCESSWIRE / February 2, 2018 / The Michigan Association of Recreational Vehicles and Campgrounds (MARVAC) has good news for people considering trading in an older RV and purchasing a new one during the 52nd Annual Detroit Camper & RV Show, February 7-11, at Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi.

"As a result of diligent lobbying in Lansing by MARVAC, people trading-in a used RV to purchase a new RV will now only be taxed on the difference between the value of the trade-in and the new RV purchase," said Bill Sheffer, executive director of MARVAC.

For example, if the trade-in value of an RV is $50,000 and a new 2018 RV is $100,000, the six percent sales tax will only be applied on the difference, or $50,000, Sheffer explained.

"This is a great deal for those who enjoy RVing but may have been holding off on purchasing a new RV," said Sheffer. "We are pleased the dedicated effort of MARVAC on behalf of RV enthusiasts across the state has come to such a beneficial outcome."

MARVAC was instrumental in getting Senate bills 94 and 95 passed in mid-2017 and then the subsequent work with the Michigan legislature to override the governor's veto. This is the first time a Michigan governor veto has been overturned since 2002.

"If you've been sitting on the fence about purchasing a new RV, this approved legislation should help you make a decision," said Darren Ing, director of the 52nd Annual Detroit Camper & RV Show. "It's a big incentive."

More than 280 units and 50 RV brands will be on display at the show, including popular travel trailers, folding campers, motorhomes and fifth wheel travel trailers. Prices range from $6,995 to more than $400,000. For more information, go to www.marvac.org.
