Blade meet Alexa. Alexa, Blade

SANTA MONICA, CA / ACCESSWIRE / January 9, 2018 / Once a small OTC company that never got much respect for standing on the leading edge of wearable display technology, Vuzix Corp. (VUZI) has grown into a multinational brand with a trophy case of awards and growing list of prominent partners looking to leverage its products and technology. The Vuzix name is now associated with the likes of DHL, Bosch, Airbus, Amazon and more. It seems like the tailwinds keep getting stronger for Vuzix, with 2017 ending with a flurry of news and 2018 starting off similarly as Vuzix showcases its latest products at the high-profile Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 9-12.

Vuzix won't be alone showing-off its products. Partners like Texas Instruments and Powershelf will also be demonstrating applications with their technology.

Amongst its next-generation smart glasses and wearable augmented reality products on display will be the Vuzix Blade, which hauled in four International CES Innovation 2018 Awards. The areas of the accolades were diverse, enveloping Fitness, Sports and Biotech; Wireless Handset Accessories; Portable Media Players and Accessories as well as Computer Accessories.

Thanks to an IP estate of over 100 patents and patents pending, the company can trumpet bringing to market the world's sleekest and smallest pair of AR smart glasses ever developed by anyone, anywhere. The new Blade, weighing in at under 3 ounces, is the natural evolution of augmented reality and smart technology with a comprehensive list of features and capabilities as a hands-free extension of a smartphone. Indeed, the Oakley-style glasses, with their robust features, ease of use and connectivity to portable devices, may be as Vuzix CEO Paul Traverse puts it, the start of leaving your phone in your pocket.

At CES, the world will get to see another first by Vuzix as the Blade is unveiled as the first smart glasses powered by Amazon's Alexa. Vuzix says the glasses, which come with a $1,000 price tag, are initially targeting so-called "prosumers," like business customers and golfers, but will start coming down in price in the future.

As measured by a share price rally lately, investors are obviously excited about the latest product, the Alexa component and Blade heading to the consumer market next quarter. At the start of November, shares were as low as $4.55, but have since catapulted upward, including hitting $9.55 in intraday trading on Monday. That's the highest for the stock since September 8, 2016, when the all-time high was set for VUZI at $9.80.
