FORT PIERCE, FL / ACCESSWIRE / September 27, 2017 / Twin Vee PowerCats, Inc. (OTC PINK: TVPC) has established an internal exploratory group to look at "green" propulsion systems that may eventually be used in the production of Twin Vee boats, as well as examine alternatives to supplement the petroleum-based motors currently used in most recreational powerboats. The group will also examine how the recreational boating industry is trying to address the need for a more sustainable way to fuel boat motors.

"Twin Vee dual hull boats offer more fuel-efficient aqua dynamics than mono-hulled boats, but we are looking for additional solutions to help decrease the size of our carbon footprint," says Joseph Visconti, President of Twin Vee Powercats, Inc. He explains that catamaran powerboats, like the ones Twin Vee manufactures, are more fuel-efficient than mono-hulls because they require less horsepower to reach cruising speed. The two narrow hulls generate about one-third as much wetted-surface, or drag, compared to mono-hulls, which consumes less fuel. "This delivers better fuel economy than comparable mono-hulls," Visconti adds. "Our company is constantly examining ways to reduce the impact recreational powerboating has on the environment. The exploratory group will determine if that is feasible either by encouraging the use of alternative and renewable fuel sources or by installing electric-powered or hybrid engines to our boats."

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and the American Boat and Yacht Council (AYBC) have been working on evaluating how marine engines operate on biobutonal, an alternative biofuel made from sugar, starch, and/or perennial plants. According to the NMMA, biobutanol is a more promising alternative fuel source compared to other biofuels, like ethanol. Biobutonal meets with current federal renewable fuel mandates and clean air standards based on NMMA and AYBC testing and contains a higher percentage (around 16%) of renewable fuels compared to ethanol without losing engine performance or reliability. "While not currently prevalent like ethanol-blended gasoline, we are glad that the industry as a whole is moving towards more renewable fuels like biobutonal in the future to help lessen the need for petroleum," says Visconti.

Another alternative Twin Vee is searching for is a motor that significantly reduces fuel consumption or eliminates the need for fuel altogether. Visconti remarks, "Companies like Tesla Motors are able to manufacture and sell completely green automobiles without sacrificing performance or luxury, and I can see Twin Vee heading in that direction." Electric power is the most common alternative to gasoline and will be a focus for Twin Vee's exploratory group. There have been a number of marine motor manufactures to offer silent, emissions-free, battery-powered motors in recent years, however, a major consideration for the exploratory group will be how a boat's performance and cruising range are affected due to battery constraints.

"We are hopeful that our exploratory group will be able to find an electric or hybrid motor that blends power, reliability, and longevity. One that will work well with our product line, offer the best riding boat on the water, and provide little to no noticeable changes in the way our customers use our boats," says Visconti.

The exploratory group will provide regular updates to Twin Vee's management and development teams in the hopes that its research will help build new boats that minimize the impact on the environment. "While there may be some hard work ahead of us, the goal we are striving to achieve is an important one," notes Visconti. "Our company wants future generations to enjoy water recreation and boating as much as we do now - and this first step will help us get there."

About Twin Vee PowerCats, Inc.

Headed by CEO Joseph Visconti, Value Rich, Inc. became Twin Vee PowerCats, Inc. on April 25, 2016. Previously, on February 1, 2015, Value Rich consummated a business purchase agreement to acquire 100% of the stock and ownership of Twin Vee Catamaran's Inc. Originally founded in 1994, the company designs, manufactures, and sells recreational and commercial twin-hull power boats under the Twin Vee brand name. Over the past 22 years, the company has concentrated on perfecting the high-speed twin-displacement hull design, also known as a "catamaran powerboat."
