In an Interview with CEOCFO, John Rice, CEO of Sigma, Explains How Sigma's Technology is Essential to a Manufacturing Revolution Known as 3D Printing

SANTA FE, NM / ACCESSWIRE / September 25, 2017 CEOCFO Magazine, an independent investment publication that highlights important technologies and companies, today released an interview [http://ceocfointerviews.com/interviews/SigmaLabs17.htm] with John Rice, CEO of Sigma Labs, Inc (NASDAQ: SGLB). Sigma is a Santa Fe, NM, company whose technology is a crucial part of a revolution in manufacturing known as 3D printing.

In the interview with CEOCFO Editorial Executive, Bud Wayne, Rice explained that 3D printing "will transform the manufacturing world." He said, "It doesn't take much imagination to see a United States in the near future in which every machine shop and every major manufacturer relies heavily on 3D production equipment."

The basic idea behind 3D printing is that parts are built up by depositing layer after layer of material, rather than starting with a hunk of metal and cutting or drilling away material to fashion the part. As a result, it's possible to make almost anything right on the spot, such a new replacement part for aging equipment on 60-year-old Navy cruiser for which no spares have been manufactured by traditional means for years, said Rice.

But for all its promise, 3D printing (or additive manufacturing ("AM"), as it is also called) has a serious problem: Tiny variations may occur in how the layers are laid down, so it's very difficult to ensure that every part meets the exact design specifications and has the required high quality.

Sigma's innovative PrintRite3D® technology solves this problem. Using sensors and sophisticated software algorithms, it monitors the "printing" as it is occurring layer by layer, "assuring the machine operator that the metal being formed in real time is complying with the design," Rice told CEOCFO.

That's why "PrintRite3D® is a technology that we believe to be essential to enable 3D metal manufacturing to make the leap from prototype manufacturing to cost efficient high yield production runs," Rice said.

Sigma is moving ahead rapidly to prove the value of its system with major manufacturers. "We are installed at mostly high technology settings including Woodward, Pratt & Whitney, Honeywell, Aerojet, Solar Turbines all in the U.S. and Siemens in Sweden, and as OEM suppliers to a large AM machine manufacturer in Germany, to Additive Industries in the Netherlands, and to Spartacus3D France," said Rice. He expects those trials to show that Sigma’s technology will be essential for most forms of additive manufacturing, leading to substantial sales and revenues.

At the same time, Sigma is looking to acquire companies to expand its offerings in the larger world of 3D manufacturing.

"Sigma has a story, a team of people, a vital technology, and an exciting emerging market," said Rice. "Keep an eye on us."
