Vascular Surgeon, Mr Parameswaran Sridhar MBBS, FRCS, has developed his unique and exclusive procedure - 'Tumescent Foam Sclerotherapy' - for treating a range of troublesome, uncomfortable and unsightly leg veins in one single session. The treatment encompasses laser treatment for larger varicose veins alongside another approach for smaller varicose veins and larger leg thread veins.

Tumescent Foam Sclerotherapy combines the gold standard EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation) with foam sclerotherapy; using just one entry point to deliver both the laser and the foam sclerotherapy treatment for a more comprehensive result than could be achieved with either treatment in isolation.

Combining the procedures is far more efficient than carrying them out separately, providing many distinct benefits for patients who have a series of varicose and thread veins requiring different treatment approaches.

The all-in-one procedure is faster and more comfortable than having laser treatment followed by injectable foam sclerotherapy. As well as only requiring a single incision, the combined procedure means that a smaller amount of sclerotherapy foam is needed; and therefore, the risk of inflammatory responses and discomfort are reduced.

The whole treatment is generally finished within an hour for each leg, depending on the extent of veins being treated, and there is no need for a second session as all veins are treated within the same procedure. Healing is quicker too, so patients can return to normal activities with minimal disruption. There is no overnight stay, patients walk unaided out of the clinic and return to work the next day.

Cosmedics' founder, Medical Director and Aesthetic Doctor, Dr Ross Perry MBBS explains:

"EVLA treatment has been shown to deliver a permanent success rate of 95.4%, which is fabulous news for those with varicose veins. However, this approach does not work for smaller varicose or larger thread veins and we find that many of our patients will have these alongside their main varicose veins."

"Complementing EVLA laser treatment with foam sclerotherapy means that we can treat a range of different types veins in one session, giving the patient a more thorough result. The advantages of combining the two procedures in one protocol also make it faster, more comfortable and convenient, as well as providing a faster recovery."

"This protocol is exclusive to Mr Sridhar, who treats patients at The London Vein Centre."

Tumescent Foam Sclerotherapy is carried out in Cosmedics' Vein Treatment Centre in South West London, where ultrasound technology is available on site to ensure proper assessment and diagnosis.

EVLA treatment is the most popular treatment option for varicose veins, but The London Vein Centre offers a range of further options according to the nature of veins. Micro-surgery is available for the removal of veins (phlebectomy); while options for smaller veins include foam sclerotherapy, microsclerotherapy, microcautery, and ND:Yag laser techniques.

The London Vein Centre is based at Cosmedics' flagship clinic in Putney at 4 Disraeli Road, just off the high street. The clinic is highly convenient for patients living and working in Central and South West London and is easily accessible from Surrey with good local parking and public transport links.

Cosmedics Skin Clinics was established in 2003 and has built up an excellent reputation for cosmetic and medical treatments with mole removal being a particular speciality. The company has a network of skin treatment clinics based around London and Bristol. The dedicated London Vein Centre was launched in 2014.
