Bloomingdale – The Apostolate for Family Consecration (AFC) is excited to announce that they will be hosting a special celebration to commemorate the historic event that helped inspire their organization's founding a century ago.

In the spring of 1917, three children in Fatima, Portugal began reporting sightings of an angel. Then, in May, the children said they saw Mary – "the lady more brilliant than the sun." They would see her a total of six times, the last sighting occurring on October 13, 1917, the miracle of the sun and the apparition of the Holy Family. In 1930, Bishop José da Silva announced that the event was a miracle worthy of belief.

Decades later, Jerry and Gwen Coniker would travel to this holy site and, after two years, return to America and begin the AFC, a mission to spread the message of Fatima for families.

Now, on the 100th anniversary of Fatima, the AFC's family retreat center, Catholic Familyland, will host a special event to allow people who cannot go to Fatima, to experience the devotions of pilgrims who travel there and to learn more about the message of Fatima and how to live this message today.

"The message of 100 years ago in Fatima is a message for our current times. There is no time to delay in responding to the call from Heaven, which was conveyed during the 6 apparitions," explained Theresa Schmitz.

The Fatima Fest Pilgrimage will begin on October 13th and run the entire weekend. It offers families a chance for prayer, reflection, and the opportunity to grow in their relationships with God and one another. Catholic Familyland is 800 acres and features numerous prayer sites. There will be speakers, a concert, and plenty of fun for children of all ages.
