The freight forwarder recorded an increase of 311% in shipping volume to Guatemala, 63% to Costa Rica and 53% to Puerto Rico.
The first quarter, which ended March 31, 2017, saw fluctuations on the vehicle shipping market to Central America. The strategic reorganization of shipping alliances and marketing strategies at the end of the first quarter resulted in a considerable second quarter growth and also accelerated the performance in the total Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) shipping segment to Central America.
As the company plans to double the volume of RoRo shipping by the end of 2017, the shipping volume to Central America is likely to increase further, as well. Ship Overseas contracts its Central America shipping to three major shipping lines: Crowley, Wallenius, and NYK.
RoRo shipping is largely considered the most cost-efficient shipping method, in addition to guaranteeing fixed departure and arrival dates. This shipping method is simultaneously the most common when it comes to car shipping to Central America.
