As a spokesperson for the Build Your Own Watch project noted, many people love the idea of getting to participate in making an item that they can enjoy for years, but learning how to tool pieces and assemble them can be too large an undertaking for most.
"Build Your Own Watch offers a unique option reflected in the company's name: you can actually make your own watch," the spokesperson said, adding that the new watch is already creating quite a buzz in the luxury and bespoke accessories spaces.
"This will all be done with the help of the Series One Watch Kit, which includes high quality, luxurious components that allow you to build a beautiful watch that will last."
All kits include a 42 mm 316L Series One Case, with the sapphire and case back crystal installed and a Miyota 8215 Movement. With this, people will be able to choose from a black, white, or blue dial, their choice from three hour and minute hand styles and four sweep second hands, and one of six genuine leather straps.
Additional touches can also be added, including a laser engraved buckle, a custom image or inscription printed on the dial, and an ornate Guilloche engraved rotor.
"There is no watchmaking expertise required to assemble the watch; Build Your Own Watch will direct you to the perfect tools for beginning watchmaking and guide you along with step-by-step video instructions," the spokesperson said.
Even those who opt out of building the watch on their own will be able to enjoy a divine bespoke timepiece assembled by expert watchmakers.
In order to help pay for production and marketing costs associated with launching the Build Your Own Watch project, Bell and his team recently launched a fundraiser on Kickstarter. There, they hope to raise $37,000 through crowdfunding.
