DALLAS, TX / ACCESSWIRE / February 5, 2016 / Holidays like Valentine's Day can easily slip off the radar for couples who are devoting all of their attention to a child who is battling cancer. Heroes for Children (HFC) - a unique nonprofit that provides financial and social assistance to families with children battling cancer - hosts an annual Valentine's Day candlelight dinner, offering parents in Dallas and Houston a special date night.

"When families focus all of their attention on a child who is sick, it's easy for date nights and holidays like Valentine's Day to get pushed aside. We host programs like the annual Valentine's Day dinner so families can celebrate special occasions away from their child's cancer diagnosis," says Larissa Linton, cofounder and executive director of Heroes for Children.

In HFC's celebration of Valentine's Day, couples enjoy a candlelight dinner and receive a raffle ticket for a gift and goodie bags. Their children are treated to tasty treats and fun activities under the close care of trained childcare professionals in the room next door. To help support these families, HFC is requesting the following donations for the event:

- 30-35 individual goodie bag items such as candles, movie tickets, food coupons, etc.

- Gift items such as certificates for visits to hotels, dinner for two, family bowling, family outings to the zoo or museums, televisions, DVD players, jewelry, etc.

As HFC takes the next steps in preparing for the annual Valentine's Day Dinner, they would love the support of surrounding communities. For more information about volunteering or donations, please visit HFC online.

This year, HFC will host Valentine's Day celebrations on Feb. 16 at the Houston Racquet Club and on Feb. 21 at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas.
