NASHVILLE, TN / ACCESSWIRE / January 19, 2015 / According to a recent Associated Press story, California farmers and water district officials are upset that they are being denied much needed water due to a U.S. Fish and Wildlife plan to safeguard a threatened three-inch Delta smelt.
The farmers and water district officials believe they need water from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta sent south to them in the Central Valley. The endangered smelt only lives in the delta, which is the largest estuary on the West Coast and which supplies much of California with drinking water and irrigates millions of farmland acres.
With water shortages in the West and Southwest, and with water contaminations occurring periodically in various parts of the country, less and less clean drinking water is available.
