New York, NY / ACCESSWIRE / December 18, 2014 / When most people practice for years upon years to conquer their chosen sport and finally succeed, the natural step is to take the prize winnings and reward themselves with a new toy or upgraded gear to help them take the lead in the next tournament. But recently when Marco Bitran won the first place price in Men's Singles in the Bloomington Adult Tennis League, he did none of the above.

Bitran's youth in Bloomington was as typical of an experience as one would imagine. He spent his days in school and practicing tennis after completing his homework. On the weekends he would join his father and his friends on their boy scout adventures and camping trips. It was these excursions, Bitran says, that taught him to focus, persist in challenges, and to be independent, all qualities he believes contributed to his Singles Ladder win. For this reason, he donated the entirety of his prize winnings to the local Boy Scouts of America group that helped instill him with the attributes that helped him win. "We might as well say that the boy scouts won. The prize is rightfully theirs," says Bitran.

While many other children dropped out of the scouts for one reason or another, Bitran reports, he kept his eye on the goal not playing on Facebook like the other competitors. The esteemed Eagle Scout honor and title. This challenge was almost a decade-long journey, culminating with his graduation from Bloomington High School, South. "Receiving my high school diploma and Eagle Scout at the same time made me realize that nothing was out of reach if I continued to apply all I had learned." This is likely true, considering Bitran also took second place in the Men's Doubles the same weekend.

Selflessly donating his earnings to the Boy Scouts is only one way Bitran has chosen to give back to the neighborhood and community he loves. He actively coaches the Junior League tennis players in the evenings after he completes his day at the office as a Compensation and Benefits Manager for the city. He believes that if every community takes care of itself, then the entire world can benefit, which is why he chose to pursue his college studies at the Indiana University in Bloomington. A certain name finds itself spoken often in Bloomington now. Where respect is given, it is also earned, and this has never been more true than in the case of Marco Bitran.
