Jakarta, Indonesia / ACCESSWIRE / November 18, 2014 / The BlackGold Group, an Indonesian based coal mining company, and Burns & McDonnell, a full service engineering consultancy company specializing in coal fired power plant technology, announced their intention to build a coal fired mine mouth power plant at the coal mining concessions that BlackGold owns in Indragiri Hulu, Riau. A feasibility study will be conducted by Burns & McDonnell.
On the company's recent announcement, Phil Rickard, CEO of The BlackGold Group said "As part of our ongoing strategy to supply coal to the power plant business we have signed a recent cooperation with one of the world's largest and most respected coal fired engineering firms, Burns and McDonnell to explore building a large scale mine mouth power plant at our concession."
The President of Burns & McDonnell, Michael W. Brown added that the company will supply the required experience to develop the bankable feasibility study for a large scale mine mouth power plant, initially estimated at 2x300MW. "We have a large amount of experience in the field of coal fired power plants and projects of this nature" he explained. If the results of the study show the project is feasible and economical, the two sides will spend US $500 million - US $1 billion on the creation of the plant along the mine's mouth. Another study is simultaneously underway regarding building a coal - liquefaction plant.
The announcement was made at the US - Indonesia investment summit on 12th November 2014, and witnessed by His Excellency Mr. Robert O. Blake Jr., Ambassador of the United States of America to Indonesia, and Mr. Kit Bond, Former Senator of the Unites States of America.
