West Memphis, AR / ACCESSWIRE / Oct 25, 2014 / LD Hardas, founder and CEO of Awesome Products Inc., visited his company’s expanded West Memphis plant in September. The $6 million expansion, which occurred over the summer, included the installation of a 600,000-gallon tank farm. The tanks, which increased the plant’s overall production, extract and contain up to 10 million pounds of water from the municipal system during off-peak hours.
During his visit, Hardas granted West Memphis Mayor William Johnson a tour of the facility. The plant is located on E. Broadway and 7th Street. Hardas also convened with Dow Chemical Company representatives and other suppliers.
According to Mayor Johnson, Awesome Products Inc. is "a thriving example" of what conducting business in his city could look like. The company has the “low operating costs, central location and a business friendly environment (that) make sense for any business," he said.
The tanks were once milk silos that Awesome Products purchased from the dairy industry. The expansion added seven production lines, which improved the manufacturing rate by 40 percent, and increased the Awesome Products workforce by 35 employees.
Hardas said he always keeps an eye out for used milk tanks in the dairy industry, because of their inexpensive cost and superior quality. Through the buying of previously owned dairy industry equipment for the West Memphis facility, Awesome Products Inc.'s dedication to conducting business in the city impressed its officials.
West Memphis Economic Development Director, Ward Wimbish, said that Awesome Products Inc. proves “it is really possible” to manufacture products on American soil. This is during a growing movement in which governments and corporations are striving for more “made in the U.S.A.” efforts, he said.
Headquartered in Buena Park, CA, Awesome Products Inc. first opened the West Memphis facility in 2011. Between the West Memphis location and the 280,000 square-foot-facility in Marked Tree, AR, the company owns and operates over 1 million square feet of production and distribution space in eastern Arkansas. According to Hardas, the company is debt free.
