Whitefish, MT / September 23, 2014 / Washington DC voters appear overwhelming ready to legalize recreational cannabis, based on a recent poll sponsored by NBC4, Washington Post, and Marist. The poll found that 65% of respondents supported Ballot Initiative 71 to legalize recreational marijuana ahead of November 4th elections. If successful, the initiative would permit adults to possess up to two ounces of marijuana and cultivate up to six marijuana plants in their homes for personal use.
Some cannabis supporters believe that recreational legalization in the United States Capitol could demonstrate the policy's successes to politicians on their own turf, while addressing some key problems within the district when it comes to arrests. Whether or not the measure succeeds will depend on voter attitudes in November, but the significant lead expressed in the polls is one of the highest in any state to date, suggesting that the measure has a relatively high probability of success.
