Happy Creek Expands Tungsten Zones at Surface on the Fox Property, B.C.

Topic:

Vancouver, British Columbia / ACCESSWIRE / September 17, 2014 / Happy Creek Minerals Ltd. (TSXV: HPY) (the "Company") announces that exploration work has expanded the known mineralized zones at surface on its 100% owned Fox tungsten property.

The Fox property is well situated approximately 25 km east of the past producing Boss Mountain molybdenum mine, and 75 km northeast of the town of 100 Mile House in the south-central Cariboo region of British Columbia, Canada. The property has good road access, hydropower within 17 km and other resource based infrastructure nearby.

Key points:

  1. 1)Located favorable tungsten host, calc silicate and skarn that expands the Nightcrawler zone an additional 400 metres to the east. Target area expanded to 2 km.

  2. 2)Located thick marble, calc silicate and skarn layers in outcrop extending up to 600 metres along the west and northwest side of Deception Mountain.

  3. 3)Target area on Deception Mountain increased to 3 km by 1.4 km in dimension.

  4. 4)Ultra Violet lamping shows positive tungsten values in samples. More work is planned.

David Blann, President and CEO of Happy Creek states: "We have extended the Nightcrawler zone to 2 km, and further north on Deception Mountain, can now show the favorable geology occurs in a large portion of a three km by 1.4 km area. The detailed drilling we've done at the RC zone has given us confidence in the ability to outline a resource with top tier thickness and grades, yet it is a fraction of this large scale mineral system. The northern and western side of Deception Mountain show great promise and expands the resource potential of the property. The favorable geology here covers a large area at surface, and additional detailed geology, UV lamping and sampling is planned prior to drilling."

Details

In an area of recent logging activity, prospecting approximately 400 metres east of the Nightcrawler tungsten zone has located angular, subcrop rock samples showing positive tungsten under ultra violet light. No soil sampling or other exploration has been performed in this area. Previous drilling at Nightcrawler together with this new information suggests the favorable tungsten-bearing skarn layers to be approximately 2 kilometres by 500 metres in dimension and open in extent. The geology at Nightcrawler is similar to that occurring approximately 4 km north on Deception Mountain.

Between 2010 and 2013, surface sampling, trenching and drilling along the eastern side of Deception Mountain has confirmed strong tungsten grade and thickness occurs in outcrops and near surface in drill holes in four areas (708, BN, RC and BK) over a three kilometre long, north-south trend. Geological mapping and drilling show the favorable tungsten bearing calc silicate and skarn layer is near horizontal to gently westward dipping in orientation and is open in extent into Deception Mountain.

Between September 8 and 11, 2014, reconnaissance geological mapping has confirmed the favorable geology occurs on the other (Western) side of Deception Mountain. The favorable geology consists of deformed marble, massive calc silicate and skarn reaching 10 to 20 metres in thickness and occurs in at least three separate layers that can be largely traced on surface up to approximately 600 metres, and are open in extent. Other layers of interest were observed on steeper areas of the Mountain but were not visited. Conformable to cross cutting intrusive rocks occur and consist of felsic, two-mica granite, aplite, and quartz as sills and dikes.

Although more difficult to perform during daylight, ultra violet lamping in multiple locations revealed positive tungsten in the garnet-pyroxene bearing calc silicate and skarn units. Analytical results are pending. Results of the reconnaissance geology suggest there is a strong likelihood that mineralized tungsten bearing skarn continues from the eastern side through to the western side of Deception Mountain, a distance of up to 1.4 km and is open in extent.

More information on the Fox property can be obtained from the Company's website at www.happycreekminerals.com Projects/Cariboo Properties/Fox. Drill results from the BN, RC and BK that span a distance of two kilometres, include 14.8 metres of 4.0% W03, 26.3 metres of 1.19% W03 and 5.0 metres of 0.68%, respectively. A review of drill results since October 2011 indicate 33 selected drill core intervals have a width-weighted average grade of 2.48 % W03 over 2.92 metres. These results provide an indication of the frequency for very high grades and suggest potential for more with further drilling. A grade of 2.5 percent tungsten trioxide contains 25.0 kg of W03 per tonne of rock, and recent tungsten prices are around Can$40.0.0/kg W03 (1).

Tungsten is regarded by the British Geological Survey as a strategic and critical metal essential for industrialized countries. Over 50% is used in cemented tungsten carbide to make cutting tools for the construction, metalworking, mining, oil and gas drilling industries. The balance is used in applications requiring high temperature stability and density in electronic components, super-alloys, wear-resistant alloys and chemicals. In addition to tungsten and molybdenum, positive values of zinc, gold, silver, indium and bismuth also occur at the Fox property. Indium is a rare metal used in liquid crystal applications such as touch screens.
