Facebook Acquires Mobile Data Company Pryte; Gilead Sciences Releases Updated Phase 2 Study Results

Shares of GILD closed up 1.23% on about 8.3 million shares traded almost. The company announced updated interim results of a Phase 2 study (Study 102) evaluating GS-9973, its investigational oral inhibitor of spleen tyrosine kinase (Syk), for the treatment of patients with relapsed chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL).

Arch Coal closed down 6.38% on about 19.2 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest decliners on the NYSE and hit a new yearly low of $3.21 during intra-day trading. The move may have been brought on by the EA announcing to cut carbon emissions in the country 30% by 2030.

The company announced it is acquiring Pryte, a one year old Finnish company that aims to make it easier for mobile phone users in under-developed parts of the world to use wireless Internet apps. Details of the financial terms have not been disclosed.

Shares of IAG closed up 12.54% on about 24.6 million shares traded. The stock was one of the biggest gainers on the NYSE as well as one of the most active and even hit a new yearly low during intra-day trading before bouncing back. There was no significant news to explain the spontaneous move.
