Dollar General Gains despite Missing Estimates; Applied Materials gets “BUY” Rating by Jefferies

Shares of DG closed up 3.89% on nearly 10.8 million shares on Tuesday. The stock was one of the most active stocks on the NYSE. Although the company missed estimates in Q1, the company reported first-quarter revenue that climbed 6.8%, same-store sales edged 1.5% higher and management reiterated its forecast for full-year earnings between $3.45 and $3.55 a share.

Applied Materials Inc. closed up 4.39% on Tuesday with about 33.3 million shares traded. The stock hit a new yearly high of $21.45 during intra-day trading. The stock received coverage with a "buy" rating by analysts at Jefferies.

NF Energy Saving will provide Water Diversion with $15 million worth of butterfly valve flow control equipment. The company should deliver the orders between July 2014 and March 2015.
