New York City, New York -- (June 14, 2013)

The Affordable Care Act (ACA), which is biggest overhaul of the U.S. healthcare sector in decades, was upheld by the Supreme Court almost a year ago. The ACA is expected to go into full effect by 2014. While the reform will lead to higher costs for the healthcare sector, most players in the sector have welcomed it as they believe that the increase in number of insured individuals will eventually benefit them. One of the most controversial features of the ACA has been the 2.3% tax on U.S. gross sales of medical devices, which many say will lead to higher costs and hurt innovation. On Thursday, June 13, 2013, the healthcare sector ended sharply higher, tracking gains in the broader market. The major movers in the sector included Teva Pharmaceuticals Industries Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE: TEVA), Mylan Inc. (NASDAQ: MYL), Zoetis Inc. (NYSE: ZTS), Covidien Plc (NYSE: COV), and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. (NYSE: VRX).
